When writing this short essay I wanted to include some images of the old R.A. Penfold books. In the process, I came across World Radio History for the first time.

Despite looking like the kind of website that might only function in Netscape Navigator (or perhaps because of it), it’s a full-on treasure trove of resources.

A few highlights that are close to my heart:

I didn’t manage to find the exact book yet, but there was one Penfold title that contained a MIDI-to-CV converter project. I never built it, despite wanting to, but it was where I first learned about opto-isolators, UARTs and how MIDI data is serialised onto a cable. All very cool for a couple of pages in a £2 paperback.
